Three injured in group clash over water sharing

Moga, July 14 (UNI) Three people received bullet injuries when two groups of farmers from neighbouring villages in Baghapurana sub-division of the district clashed over a water dispute last evening, police today said.

According to the police sources, three farmers of Bheikha village received bullet injuries in a clash over the blockage of irrigation water by some villagers of Daddahoor.

The police said the farmers of Bheikha village had already complained that Sardul Singh, Lakhbir Singh, Bhupinder Singh and Mela Singh of Daddahoor village were stopping the flow of irrigation water passing through their field.

Last evening when the four again blocked the water course, the complainants Mandeep Singh, Hira Singh and Sonu along with other villagers rushed to the site of blockade to protest against the action.

The four, carrying firearms, fired upon them injuring three and then fled the scene, the police said.

All the injured had been admitted to Moga civil hospital.

The police have registered a case against the four absconding accused under sections 307, 148, 149, 430 and 379 of the IPC for various charges including attempt to murder and wrongly diverting irrigation water.

A search has been launched to nab them, police said.
