Pondy: Thousands of AIADMK volunteers arrested

Puducherry, July 14: Thousands of AIADMK volunteers today courted arrest by putting up road blockades at nine centres in the Puducherry and Karaikal regions of the Union Territory, to press the Government to take immediate steps for the implementation of the schemes announced by it.

Party State Secretary A Anbazhagan, MLA, said the Chief Minister had announced several schemes such as ten kg free rice to all ration card holders, unemployment allowance to educated unemployed youths and colour television sets to the poor. However, nothing had been implemented so far.

He said two Legislators Om Sakthi Sekhar and Omalingam, besides himself, were also arrested.
