Barwani, MP, July 14 (UNI) Hundreds of Sardar Sarovar Project (SSP) oustees today continued seizure of about 100 acres of government land near Taloon village, in the vicinity of this district headquarters, in support of a demand for alternate plots despite heavy police force being deployed in the area.

Oustees from this and Jhabua district, who unleashed a 'land in lieu of land' campaign yesterday and seized the land belonging to the Agricultural Science Centre (ASC) and State Seeds and Farm Development Corporation (MPSSFDC) yesterday, continued ploughing, sowing and planted flags at several points for the second consecutive day today.

Heavy police force had been deployed to drive out the agitators.

Collector S K Pal has called a meeting of protestors and officials of departments concerned in order to deal with the present situation.

Incharge Superintendent of Police Narsingh Rao Kushwah said two cases had been registered against 17 named accused, including Narmada Bachao Andolan leader Medha Patkar, besides several other workers on the complaints by ASC directors and MPSSFDC incharge.

Ms Patkar told the agitationists that the sit-in and other activities would continue until their demands were met. Public meetings were also held today in this regard.

Terming registering of cases against workers as injustice, she described seizure of government land as appropriate. She demanded inquiry into corruption in rehabilitation package of dam oustees.
