TN: 'More roads to become two-lane'
Tiruvallur (Tamil Nadu), July 14: The state government has planned to convert 6,000 km of the available 9,526 km roads into two lane roads, Highways Minister Vellakoil Saminathan said.
Speaking to reporters here last evening after inspecting works connected with his department, Mr Saminathan said last year alone the 1,320 km of roads were converted into two lane roads.
For the current year, the government proposed to spend Rs 729 crore for converting another 1,320 km into two-lane roads.
A sum of Rs 60 crore will be spent on constructing rail overbridges at Kadambuthur, Thiruvalangudi, Ambattur and Avadi and encroachments on land belonging to Highways Department would be removed after marking work was completed, the minister said.
