Haryana Pvt sector to set up tissue culture units

Chandigarh, July 14 (UNI) The Haryana government has decided to involve private sector for establishing tissue culture units to produce seedlings of quality fruit trees in the state.

A spokesman for the Horticulture Department said that during 2007-08, a sum of Rs four lakh would be provided as financial assistance to the farmers to strengthen tissue culture units already established in the state under Horticulture Mission.

Giving details of the scheme, he said that financial assistance would be provided to the farmers for establishing or extension of orchards of mango, chickoo, guava, ber, amla and citrus fruits.

A financial assistance of Rs 7,875 per hectare would be given for mango orchards and Rs 9,262 per hectare for chickoo orchards in the districts of Ambala, Yamunanagar, Panchkula and Karnal while Rs 4,875 per hectare would be given for guava orchards in all the districts falling under National Horticulture Mission.

He said similarly a financial assistance of Rs 5,625 per hectare would be given for ber orchards in Sonepat, Rohtak, Faridabad, Mewat, Gurgaon, Jhajjar, Bhiwani, Hisar, Fatehabad, Sirsa and Mahendergarh districts and Rs 6,375 per hectare for amla orchards in district Sonepat, Rohtak, Mewat, Jhajjar, Bhiwani, Hisar, Fatehabad, Sirsa, Mahendergarh and Jind.

For citrus orchards Rs 10,616 per hectare would be given in districts Rohtak, Gurgaon, Jhajjar, Bhiwani, Hisar, Fatehabad, Sirsa, Mahendergarh, Jind, Faridabad and Mewat, he added.

He said the quality seedlings of mango, chickoo, guava, ber, amla and citrus fruit trees were available in the nurseries of the department.
