Court remands rape accused to police custody

Mumbai, July 14 (UNI) A local court today remanded three persons to police custody till July 23 for allegedly raping a 32-year-old woman at Nagpada in south-central Mumbai on Thursday night.

Mohammed Hanif Sheikh (35), Raju alias Langda Kisan Matfa (35) and Papa Nigro Joseph Mafada Mulan (20)--were arrested by the Nagpada police in an alleged gang rape case.

They were produced before the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate S Y Shisode this afternoon, who remanded them to police custody till July 23.

Police said accused Sheikh and the victim were known to each other. On Thusday night, the victim was suffering from fever and had asked Sheikh get some medicine for her from a medical store.

Instead of giving her the medicine, he gave her intoxin.

Thereafter, she became unconscious and was raped by the three persons. At around 0330 hours, she regained consciousness and realised she had ben raped.

The victim lodged a complaint with the police after which the three persons were arrested.
