BJP's youth wing demands President's Rule in Asom
Guwahati, July 14 (UNI) The Asom unit of the Bharatiya Janata Yuba Morcha (BJYM) today demanded President's rule in the state following the State Government's alleged failure to check unabated Bangladeshi infiltration.
In a memorandum submitted to the Governor, the BJYM said the successive Congress governments in the state had been patronising the illegal migrants and doing all possible to legitimise their stay for the sake of the vote bank.
They referred to the 2001 census, which clearly indicated an abnormal rise in Muslim population in several parts of the state.
'' As many as 10 districts with about 45 Assembly segments are under the sway of Bangladeshi infiltrators. Government grazing land, riverine belts and forest lands, including the famous Kaziranga reserve forest, and the area around the birth place of Sankardeva are under systematic encroachment,'' the memorandum added.
The BJYM also alleged that thousands of illegal Bangladeshis have entered the state 'by the grace of the Congress-led government of Asom' from Arunachal Pradesh through Banderdewa chek gate following a quit notice by the students' bodies in Arunachal.
They maintained that the constant infiltration was posing a serious threat to the demographic pattern of the state and it would not be long before the indigenous people of Asom turned into a minority.
The memorandum said, ''Under the circumstances, we seek your (the Governor) intervention for President's Rule in the state to be imposed with immediate effect.'' UNI
