Asom's Dhemaji dist flooded, cut off from rest of state

New Delhi, July 14 (UNI) Asom's Dhemaji district continued to remain cut-off from the rest of the state for a third consecutive day today with more than 20,000 people still sheltered in relief camps.

Flash floods, triggered by a breach in the embankment of Kumotia river had washed away 1.5 km of National Highway 52 on Thursday.

About 40,000 people had been marooned and more than 100 villages affected with two major bridges been washed away Rice, dal and other essentials, besides drinking water, were being provided to the affected population. No human casualty was reported.

Meanwhile, the Brahmaputra was flowing above the danger level at Dibrugarh and Neamatighat in Jorhat.

A depression stationary over the northwestern part of Bengal was likely to cause very heavy rainfall in isolated parts of Orissa and heavy rainfall in North Bengal, Sikkim and Jharkhand.

The Alipore Met office in Kolkata has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in the state and adjoining areas over the next 48 hours.

Kolkata and adjoining areas experienced a sultry day today with no rainfall and the maximum was was 35.5 degree Celsius and minimum temperatures was 28.6 degrees with 89 per cent humidity.

The national capital enjoyed another cool day as light showers greeted Delhiites this morning for the third successive day today.

The minimum temperature was recorded at 25.2 degrees and the maximum was at 34 degrees. The Met office has forecast a generally cloudy sky over Delhi during the next 24 hours with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers.

In Madhya Pradesh monsoon was active in most parts with 25 districts recording above normal and ten districts having normal rains till date.

Average rainfall so far across the state was 331 mm, official sources said, adding only Panna district recorded scanty rainfall of 91 mm.

In Rajasthan, the active South Western monsoon has weakened in the last few days. Except sporadic rains in some places, the State witnesed hot and humid weather today.

Hindon in Karuli district reported the highest rain of 80 mm in the last twenty four hours while Beir area in Dholpur district reported 35mm, Alwar and Laxmangarh received 25 mm of rain.

Rain or thunder showers may occur in some places in Eastern or Northern part of the State in the next twenty four hours.

Down in the south in Andhra Pradesh 34,566 cusecs of flood water was discharged into the Prakasam Barrage from Nagarjunasagar Dam at 0900 hrs today.

Irrigation Department sources told UNI the water level at Nagarjunasagar already reached 577 feet as against the maximum level of 590 feet.

An alert had been sounded for those staying downstream and residing adjacent to the river bed. A control room would function round-the-clock in the VMC from tomorrow.

Rain or thundershowers are likely to occur at most places over Konkan, Goa, coastal Karnataka and Kerala, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, east Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Rain or thundershowers are also likely to occur at a few places in Arunachal Pradesh, Asom, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Uttaranchal, Jammu and Kashsmir, west Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Gujarat region, Madhya Maharashtra, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, interior Karnataka, Lakshadweep and at isolated places in Rajasthan, Saurashtra, Kutch, Marathwada, Rayalseema and Tamil Nadu.

The southwest monsoon has been active over east Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab. It has, however, subdued over west Rajasthan, Saurashtra, Kutch, Marathwada, Rayalaseema and north interior Karnataka.

Rain or thundershowers had occurred at most places in west Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, coastal Karnataka and Kerala. They also occurred at many places in Asom, Meghalaya, Jharkhand, east Madhya Pradesh, Konkan, Goa, Telangana, south interior Karnataka and Andaman and Nicobar.

Rain or thundershowers had also occurred at a few places in Arunachal Pradesh, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Orissa, Bihar, west Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujrat region, Madhya Maharashtra and Lakshadweep.

They had also occurred at isolated places in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Gangetic West Bengal, Uttaranchal, Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, Vidarbha, Saurashtra, Kutch, Marathwada, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalseema, Tamil Nadu and north interior Karnataka.
