550gm premature baby leading a normal life

Fatehgarh Sahib, July 14 (UNI) A 550 gm premature baby got a lease of life at a Sirhind-based private Hospital, after being turned away by some top specialists in the region.

His mother Davinder Kaur, 25, a resident of Sirhind town of this district, was desolate after she delivered the child 10 weeks prior to the delivery date due to some complications.

She said that her family had lost all hopes that her pre-mature son weighing a mere 550 gms, would survive as hospitals, including PGI Chandigarh, turned them away saying that the child had meagre chances of survival.

According to Paramjit Singh, father of the child, they were disheartened and brought the child back to Sirhind.

He was admitted to a private nursing home, where a team of doctors, led by Dr K. P. S. Sandhu, took up the case as a challenge and began feeding the child special nutrients through IV lines, as he was unable to take anything orally.

After 70 days of round-the-clock dedicated care, the baby gained enough strength to be declared out of danger.

The child, who was not expected to survive even a few weeks, was now a four-months-old healthy boy living a perfectly normal live.
