Bhuj, July 13 (UNI) Police have unearthed a racket of circulating counterfeit currency in the country worth Rs 24 lakh with the arrest of six persons, including two Pakistanis, believed to be the kingpin behind the racket.

Cases against six men were registered today for bringing in fake currency from Pakistan. The two Pakistanis were arrested a few days back here.

The duo, Abdul Kaleef and Abdul Raful, had come to Bhuj on March 14, 2007, bringing in fake Indian currency worth Rs 24 lakh by boat. They had come to fishing port Jakhau. From Jakhau, they went to Mandvi, where they were helped by other four persons, including one from Mumbai and given shelter.

The other four are Abdullah Adam, Ismail Yakub, Suleiman Mammad (all from Mandvi) and Sajeed Ahmed of Mumbai. These four had helped the two Pakistanis whose plan was to take the fake notes to Ahmedabad, Mumbai and Hyderabad. Police said Rs 13 lakh have already been sent to Hyderabad, while the whereabouts of the remaining fake Rs 11 lakh is being ascertained. Not a single fake currency was found on the person of the duo or the four helpers.

The duo have confessed the racket. They told the police that they wanted to bring in more fake Indian currency to India in the future.

Abdul Kaleef said his commision amount was 10 per cent, to be paid to him in Pakistan.

Police claim that these notes were being pumped in by Pakistan's ISI.
