Job assured to next-of-kin of Samudrika victims
Mumbai, July 13: Sical Logistics has said it will provide employment opportunities to the next of kin of the victims who had lost their lives after Samudrika 10, an offshore supply vessel on ONGC duty, sank off the Mumbai coast on Monday.
Samudrika-10 was operated by Sical of Chennai under an operation and maintenance contract from Oil and Natural Gas comporation (ONGC).
Nine crew members were immediately rescued on the day of the accident while eight others were reported missing. Subsequently, four bodies were recovered while four others are still missing and search operations are underway to trace them.
Sical, in a press release here today, said necessary arrangements have been made to said the bodies to their families. The family members of the deceased would receive compensation as per their insurance cover and this amount would be matched by the Company, the release said.
The Company will offer employment opportunities to the next of kin of the deceased and will offer long-term support to affected families, the release said.
The Company said the ONGC had paid immediate ex gratia payment to all and, after medical treatment of the rescued crew at the Helibase, the Company has taken charge of them.
Samudrika 10 had sailed out of the Nhava Supply base of ONGC on July 6. It was on standby mode when it took water around 0100 hrs on July 9 and, at 1235 hours, the vessel started sinking. The vessel received several heavy swells as a result of which it went down by stern and could not come back to normal position due to the unexpected shifting of heavy cargo and aggravated weather conditions, the release said.
