Sexually harassed students of girls school to be medically tested

Bangalore, July 13 (UNI) Karnataka Women and Child Welfare Minister H K Kumarswamy today said that girl students who had been allegedly harassed sexually at a residential school for poor girls in the city would be subjected to medical tests.

Replying on the issue raised by Mr Sriramareddy of CPI (M), during the zero hour in the Legislative Assembly, Mr Kumarswamy said that the school was being run by one Ramesh from 2001 with a strength of about 40 girls students at Banneraghatta area.

Mr Kumarswamy said that the accused had been arrested and remanded to judicial custody.

The girls mainly belonged to the North Karnataka region and had been asked to go through the medical tests. He however, denied the reports of sexual harassment of the girls at the hostel.

The Minister said he would pay a visit to the school today to know the real situation. He would take decision on action to be initiated after receiving the report from the departmental inquiry.
