Sexually harassed girl students to be sent for medical test

Bangalore, July 13 (UNI) Karnataka Women and Child Welfare Minister H K Kumaraswamy today told the Legislative Assembly that girl students, who had been allegedly sexually harassed at a residential school for poor girls here, would be subjected to medical tests.

Replying to a query raised by Mr Srirama Reddy of the CPI(M) during zero hour, he said the school was being run by one Ramesh from 2001 with a strength of about 40 girls at Bannerghatta. The girls, who mainly belonged to the North Karnataka region, had been asked to go through medical tests. He however, denied reports of sexual harassment of the girls at the hostel.

Mr Kumaraswamy said the accused had been arrested and remanded to judicial custody.

The Minister said he would pay a visit to the school today to get first hand information in the light of the allegation. He would take a decision on the action to be initiated after receiving the report of the departmental inquiry.
