Mumbai, July 13 (UNI) A local court today rejected the bail application of Salim Sayyed, bodyguard of mafia fugitive Dawood Ibrahim's sister Haseena Parkar, in an extortion and cheating case.

Additional Sessions Judge V B Patil rejected the application.

The investigating agency's petition challenging the accused person's judicial custody, granted by the Metropolitan Magistrate, is pending in the upper court.

On May 24, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate V K Sharma had remanded the accused in judicial custody, and the investigation agency had contended that it had not been given a fair chance to interrogate the accused in custody.

The Anti-Extortion Cell (AEC) sleuths of Mumbai police had arrested Sayyed from Uttar Pradesh for his alleged involvement in the case which pertains to a Slums Rehabilitation Authority project at Walada in southcentral Mumbai.

Vinod Pranlal Avlani, a real estate developer and builder, in a complaint with the crime branch in December last year, had accused eight persons, including Sayyed, of cheating him to the tune of Rs 30 lakh that he had jointly invested in the project which, however, failed to take off.
