Ragging banned in GND university

Amritsar, July 13 (UNI) The Guru Nanak Dev (GND) university here has banned ragging in all its campuses.

''Any student found guilty of any kind of ragging would be severely dealt with under the law,'' Dean Students Welfare Sarup Singh said today.

The decision, he said, had been taken in accordance with the directions of the Supreme Court of India.

Prof Sarup Singh said the students found indulging in ragging would be punished severely. The punishment could be cancellation of admission, fine up to Rs 25000, suspension for attending classes, withdrawing scholarship/fellowship and other benefits, debarring from appearing in any test/ examination or other evaluation process.

The other punishments included withholding results, debarring from representing the institution in any national or international meet, tournament, youth festival, suspension or expulsion from the hostel, rustication from the institution for periods varying from one to four semesters, expulsion from the institution and consequent debarring frrm admission to any other institution, he added.
