Police resort to lathicharge on ABVP activists, 200 arrested
Hyderabad, July 13 (UNI) Police today arrested 200 ABVP activists and resorted to lathicharge when they staged a dharna before the Ranga Reddy collectorate, demanding immediate distribution of notebooks to students of Government schools and filling up of vacant teacher posts.
More than 300 activists of the BJP's student wing, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, gathered in front of the collectorate and staged a dharna to press their demands. Police forces, deployed at the collectorate, foiled their attempt to lay seige to the collectorate.
The activists squatted on the busy Lakdi-ka-pul road and obstructed vehicular traffic for over an hour.
To clear the traffic jam, police resorted to lathicharge on the activists and arrested them. Two activists, who received minor injuries in the lathicharge, were taken to a nearby hospital.
