PDK seeks action against violation of Reservation norms

Chennai, July 13 (UNI) Social organisation Periyar Dravida Kazhagam (PDK) has filed a Writ of Mandumus in Madras High Court seeking a direction to the Department of Personnel and Training Secretary to take appropriate action against the continued violation of Reservation norms by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).

The PDK also sought a direction to allocate meritorious OBC, SC and ST candidates to the reserved category instead of selecting them from general category.

The first Bench comprising Chief Justice A P Shah and Justice P Jyothimani ordered to issue notice to the respondents.

The petitioner contended that the UPSC had published the selection list of the IAS, IPS, IFS, Group A and Group B services on May 14, and many of the OBC, SC and ST candidates were selected not on the basis of merit but on the basis of their reservation status.

Nearly 60 candidates belonging to the forward community who were not eligilble were included in the place of meritorious OBC and SC/ST candidates even in the general category, the petitioner contended.
