Member of dreaded Chandrappa Harijan gang nabbed

Gulbarga, July 13 (UNI) The city police have arrested a notorious criminal, involved in several criminal cases like murders, extortion and kidnappings in Karnataka and Maharashtra, from a hotel in Bangalore.

ASP Nagaraj told UNI here today that the criminal Karim (42) was a member of the gang of dreaded Chandrappa Harijan, killed in a police encounter in 2004.

He said the city police, on a tip off, raided the hotel in Bangalore yesterday, arrested Karim and brought him here today.

Sholapur police in Maharashtra had raided his den on July seven and recovered a rifle, revolver and 20 live cartridges. However, he had escaped from the scene.

It may be noted that the police had arrested Bhagappa Uchappa (28), another member of the gang, in the city on July six.
