Malayalam scholar S. Chaturvedi receives Anuvadshri Award
New Delhi, July 13 (UNI) Noted author Sudhanshu Chaturvedi was today conferred with the prestigious ''Dr Gargi Gupta Anuvadshri Award' for 2006-7 for his yeoman contribution in the field of translation from Sanskrit into Malayalam and Hindi.
The award, instituted by the Bharatiya Anuvad Parishad, was presented by IGNOU Vice Chancellor V N Rajasekaharan Pillai at a function here.
The award carries a citation, a statuette of Goddess Saraswati and a cash component of Rs 11,000.
Dr Chaturvedi, a noted author of over 100 books in Hindi, English, Malayalam and Sanskrit, has translated more than 50 books.
Among his famous works of translation from Sanskrit to Malayalam are 'Sreemad Valmiki Ramayan' (4 volumes), 'Kalidasasahityasarvaswam' and 'Bhassaatakasarvaswam'.
His translations from Hind into Malayalam include 'Amritavum Vishavum', 'Akannu Poya Chitrangal' and 'Ara Divasam'.
A former principal of Sree Kerala Varma College, Trichur in Kerala, Dr Chaturvedi's famous translations from Malayalam into Hindi are 'Rassi', 'Professor', 'Sudha', 'Agnisakshi', 'Indulekha', 'Kanyaka', 'Kanchan Sita and 'Pareeksha'.
'Complete Works of Kalidasa' and 'Complete Works of Bhasa' are his major contributions from Sanskrit into English.
Dr Chaturvedi, who hails from Uttar Pradesh and now settled in Kerala, has been conferred with several awards, including the Indian council for Child Education Award, Kerela Sahitya Akedemi Endowment Award, Uttar Pradesh Hindi Sansthan's Sauhard Samman, Vachaspati Award, Rashtra Bhasa Ratna Rashtriya Samman and Manumitra Award.
A former member of the Official Language Committees of the DEfence, Railways and Urban Development and Poverty Alleviation Ministries, he is currently Director of National Literary Academy.
A post-graduate in Hindi, Sanskrit and Malayalam and having doctorates in Hindi and Malayalam, he migrated from Uttar Pradesh to Kerala over four decades ago.
