Srinagar, July 13 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir Vigilance Organisation today charge-sheeted revenue officials for issuing a fraudulent backward certificate to a girl who secured an admission in the Government Medical College here on that basis in 1994.

A vigilance spokesman said the charge-sheet was produced against then Pulwama Tehsildar Ghulam Hyder Mir, then Pulwama Naib Tehsildar Siraj-ud-din Shah and beneficiary Aasiya Gul in the court of the Special Judge Anti-Corruption, Kashmir.

He said a case was registered on August 24, 1996, following an inquiry, which substantiated that Ms Gul had obtained the fraudulent backward certificate from the revenue officials of Pulwama.

On the basis of this certificate, the girl got admission to the MBBS course in the Government Medical College, Srinagar.

The spokesman said while her father was working as a Secretary in the Srinagar Municipal Corporation, her mother was a teacher and the two could not have been granted a backward certificate of being a ward of 'Rural Grathi'.

During investigations, it was established that Ghulam Mohammad Kaloo, the father of the beneficiary, originally from Nowpora in Pulwama, was at present residing at Sanat Nagar here. He had applied for issuance of a backward certificate under the category of 'Rural Garthi' with the Pulwama Tehsildar, the spokesman said.

The revenue officials prepared fraudulent certificate showing that her maternal grandfather was a 'Rural Garthi'. However, the person was found to be a retired Deputy Commissioner, he said.
