New Delhi, July 13 (UNI) Heavy showers lashed Delhi for the second successive day today, maintaining coolness in the air brought about by rainfall last evening.

The showers, which hit the Capital at around 1300 hrs, brought the mercury down to 33.8 degrees Celsius, two degrees below normal, continuing to provide respite to Delhiites from prevailing warm and humid conditions earlier this week.

However, the humidity settled at a high of around 95 per cent.

Though only 2.6 mm of rainfall was recorded till 1730 hrs from 0830 hrs, the showers brought down the day temperature by six degrees, from 39 degrees Celsius yesterday.

Earlier today, Delhiites woke up to an overcast sky in the morning. The minimum temperature also dropped to 26 degrees Celsius, one degree below normal.

Today's showers follow a spell of heavy rainfall last evening which brought about tremendous coolness in the capital city, which had, for the previous two days, been experiencing warm and humid conditions. A total of 28 mm rainfall was recorded till 0830 hours this morning.

With the heavy clouds hovering over the Delhi skyline, more showers have been forecast during the day and tomorrow.

The Weatherman has forecast enhanced rainfall activity in Delhi and other plains of Northwest India in the next two to three days under the influence of an upper air cyclonic circulation over North Bay of Bengal.

''The current meteorological analysis suggests that fairly widespread rainfall activity is likely over Western Himalayan Region and adjoining Northern plains during the next two to three days,'' the Met office said.

The Met office has forecast a generally cloudy sky in Delhi during the next 24 hours with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers.
