Bangalore, 13 July (UNI) Greenpeace today announced it had completed collecting one lakh signatures for its ''Ban the Bulb'' Campaign addressed to the Union Power Minister to implement a ban on inefficient light bulbs in the country by 2010 replacing them with compact fluroscent lamps (CFL).

The campaign aims to collect a million signatures from the public by the end of the current year. The signature drive was launched across eight cities in India in April this year.

It called for a ban on incandescent bulb besides supporting Greenpeace in its efforts to fight climate change and solve prevailing energy crisis in the country at the same time, a release said here today.

To commemorate the occasion, Greenpeace organised a special event at Christ College in the city today.

''Changing the bulb is a small step for each of us. But if all of us decide to do so together, we can not only meet the entire country's peak demand shortage of electricity but also reduce India's carbon dioxide emissions,'' the release said.
