Girl commits suicide in Kashmir
Srinagar, July 13 (UNI) A girl commited suicide while a boy made an attempt to end his life in the Kashmir Valley today, official sources said.
They said one unidentified girl committed suicide when she jumped in the river Veshu near a waterfall at Aharbal in south Kashmir.
The body was later recovered and taken for identification by the police, they said.
In another incident a 12-year-old boy Gulzar Ahmad Khan, resident of Tangdhar, attempted to commit suicide when he consumed some poison.
He was admitted to hospital here in a critical condition.
According to official figures, 62 people committed suicide in 2006, while the figure has shot up dramatically this year and stood at 75 for the first six months of the current year despite fatwa by the Mufti Azam, Mufti Bashir Udddin against committing suicide.
He said suicide is an unislamic act. However, it didn't have any impact as about half a dozen persons have committed suicide since, he issued fatwa last month.
