Exodus of labourers from Bihar to other states would be checked

Patna, July 13 (UNI) The Bihar government has decided to elove some mechanism, inclduing creating of job opportunities, to stop exodus of labourers from the state.

Replying to a debate on implementation of rural employment guarantee scheme, state Rural Development Minister Baidyanath Mahto said that till May this year, a total of 54.07 lakh job cards had been issued and 7.64 lakh families were provided jobs in rural areas. Under the scheme more than Rs 109 crore had been spent which resulted in creation of 1.01 crore man-days, he added.

Earlier, only 23 districts of Bihar were covered under national rural employment scheme while 15 other districts were covered by similar schemes launched by the state government, he said adding during the current financial year, the Centre had decided to include all districts of the state under this scheme.

''Vigilance committees had been constituted from block level to state level to monitor the implementation of the shemes'', Mr Mahto said and assured the house that anyone found indulged in corrupt activities while implementing this scheme would not be spared.
