Exhibition of Saiva manuscripts in Pondy

Puducherry, July 13 (UNI) An exhibition of the unique collection of Saiva manuscripts was today organised by the French Institute of Puducherry and French School of Asian Studies at the Institute, as part of the 'Manuscript Open Day'.

The manuscripts, preserved in the two institutions here, were collected from the Tamil-speaking South India from 1950s and this was the largest collection of such saiva sidhantha texts in the world.

The exhibition was inaugurated by the New Delhi based National Mission for Manuscripts Director Sudha Gopalakrishnan.

An online catalogue on manuscripts, integrated with a complete digital image record of their transcripts in Devanagari script, was also launched on the occasion. A demonstration on how to read manuscripts and preserve was also held.

Institute Director Jean Pierre Muller and Pondicherry School of Asian Studies head Dominique Goodall participated in the function.
