Bengal: Train driver injured, staff go on strike
Khargpur, July 13: A train driver received head injuries after he was attacked by some armed miscreants in Golbazar area of the town in the wee hours today resulting in immediate stopping of work in Kharagpur-Howrah section, Divisional Railway Manager Ranjan Tewari said.
At once all the train drivers and assistant drivers stopped work in Kharagpur--Howrah division paralysing all train services on the section.
The Drivers' association demanded safety and security of the running staffs and said that they will not resume duty unless it was assured.
DRM said that deliberations have started with the union in his office at Kharagpur and that train services will be resume shortly.
Meanwhile, daily passengers since this morning are waiting desparately for resumption of train services in different stations between Midnapur and Howrah.
The driver is being treated at a private nursing home in Midnapur Town where his condition is stated to be serious. The cause of the attack is not yet known.
