Coordination group to be set up for traffic management:LG

New Delhi, July 13 (UNI) Delhi Lt Governor Tejendra Khanna today said a centralised Traffic Engineering Coordination Group would be set up soon to accord technical clearance to traffic engineering design proposals.

The body will be housed in the DDA headquarters and helped by concerned civic agencies, he said at a high-level meeting held on traffic management today.

Mr Khanna said individual traffic engineering cells would also be set up by various bodies like MCD, NDMC and PWD.

Traffic management cells under Delhi Police would be strengthened and equipped with latest IT enabled technologies and equipment to optimise surveillance and quick response mechanisms.

He said that pedestrians would be given priority and special arrangements would be made for them.

The meeting was attended by the Delhi Chief Secretary, Ramesh Narayanswami, Principal Secretary (Home), Shumsher Sheriff, Commissioner, MCD, Ashok Kumar Nigam, Chairman, NDMC, Parimal Rai and other senior government officers.

Dr Raman Patel, a Professor at the New York Polytechnic, who has played a key role in establishing the Traffic Management Centre for New York City, was a special invitee.
