Another Engineering College for Delhi, announces Govt

New Delhi, July 13 (UNI) Aspirants for Engineering colleges will now have few more options in the capital--another engineering college is being opened in Okhla, close on the heels of one set up in Jaffarpur near Najafgarh last week.

The new college, christened Govind Ballabh Pant Government Engineering College (G B Pant Government College) will be affiliated to the GGSIP University. The admission process is now on and counselling has also been started, said an official statement today.

Opening of another two degree level engineering colleges is on the cards this year, it said.

Approval of the AICTE has been accorded recently, for starting of the G B Pant college, located close to the Okhla Industrial Estate in South Delhi.

With an initial intake of 120 students-60 each in the streams of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) and Mechanical and Automation Engineering(MAE)-the institute is coming up at the campus where from the G B Pant Polytechnic is operating currently.

This institution is being developed as a super specialty institution in Mechanical Engineering, with focus on Automation, Flexible and Advanced Manufacturing Systems(FMSs), Mechatronics, Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM), Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM), Robotics and Nano-Technology.

During the next five years, it is slated to grow in strength, adding five more streams at the undergraduate level alone, and at least 10 courses at the Post Graduate level, taking its intake capacity to more than 1500, thus attempting to bridge the shortfall in the intake in engineering seats for candidates belonging to Delhi.

The Department of Training and Technical Education (DTTE), Government of Delhi has been the nodal agency for the setting up of this institution.
