UPA-Left Presidential candidate in UP capital tomorrow

Lucknow, July 12 (UNI) The UPA-Left presidential candidate Pratibha Patil will interact with MPs and MLAs of Uttar Pradesh tomorrow to seek their support to become the first woman President of the country.

Ms Patil will reach here tomorrow morning on a day-long visit.

''She is likely to meet MLAs and MPs from Congress and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP),'' a senior Congress functionary said here.

UP has the maximum number of votes for the presidential elections with 80 Lok Sabha MPs and 403 MLAs. Three assembly seats are vacant at the moment.

While Congress in UP has a mere 22 MLAs, the BSP -- which is supporting Ms Patil for the top constitutional post -- has 208 MLAs.

Each MLA has a vote value of 208. In the Lok Sabha, Congress has nine MPs,while the BSP has 17. The MPs have a vote value of 1008 each.

The principal Opposition Samajwadi Party in the state has so far decided not to vote in the presidential elections. But a final decision was likely to be taken in the next two days.

Earlier, the former Rajasthan governor was to be in the capital city on July 11, but her programme was rescheduled for tomorrow.
