Two children killed, one injured by shooting stones

Mandi, July 12 (UNI) Two school children were killed and another injured after being hit by stones that fell from a hill top in a village in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh early today.

Sundernagar SDM Pankaj Rai told UNI that the children were on their way to school when shooting stones hit them at Ropa village, about 27 kms from here.

Sanjay Kumar, one of those children, died on the spot, while another, identified as Piyush, died on way to the hospital, Mr Rai said.

He said the third child, yet to be identified, was undergoing treatment at the Civil Hospital at Sundernagar where the doctors described his condition as stable.

The district administration has announced an immediate relief of Rs 10,000 each to the parents of the children, while promising to bear the medical expenses of the injured children.

Local legislator Sohan Lal expressed grief over the incident and visited the hospital to enquire about the health of the injured student.
