No plans to change students bus concession: Minister

Thiruvananthapuram, July 12 (UNI) Kerala Transport Minister Mathew T Thomas today reiterated that the government has no plans to make any changes on students concession in private buses in the state.

Talking to mediapersons after a meeting with the Private Bus Owners Association here, he clarified that the government could not make any increase in the present concession rate as it could be possible only when increasing the bus fares.

Mr Thomas said the government could not agree with the bus owners' unilateral decision that they would not give concession to students after July 15.

The meeting ended without reaching any decision on the demand of the Association.

Later, the Association said they woud withdraw their earlier stand that no concession would be given to students in their buses from July 16.

However, they warned that unless the government taken a decision within the next one-and-half month, they would withdraw their buses from the road from September 1.

The Association had decided that concession would be denied to students from July 16.
