NHRC notice to Kerala Govt on spread of Chikungunya
New Delhi, July 12 (UNI) The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued a notice to the Kerala Government regarding 40 Chikungunya deaths in the state and sought a report within four weeks.
Taking cognizance of media reports about the alarming spread of the vector-borne disease, the Commission said such incidents are a violation of the Right to Health of the people.
The Commission has directed its Investigating Division to depute a team and assess the prevailing situation in the state.
According to the reports more than one lakh people were affected by the disease and Army teams were called to check its spread.
