Bhopal, July 12 (UNI) The Narmada Bachao Andolan (NBA) today ended its indefinite sit-in, which began 37 days ago, following the Madhya Pradesh government's assurance of solving the problems of Indira Sagar and Omkareshwar project-affected people who were ''deprived'' of compensation and grants envisaged by a rehabilitation policy.

''The agitators are not satisfied by talks with Minister of State for Narmada Valley Development Nagendra Singh (at Mantralaya) but the sit-in was ended after the assurance that village camps will be set up in two months for grievances' redressal. In the past 37 days, the agitators spoke thrice with Mr Singh and once with Energy Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya,'' NBA spokesman Alok Agrawal told reporters here.

Pointing out that the NBA struggle would continue both at the grassroots and legal levels, he added that the government's assurance was to meet just three -- rehab, compensation and grants -- of the agitators' 17 demands.

''The NBA will stage a sit-in and demonstration here from September 30 in support of the other demands. A committee, formed to monitor the camps, includes Bombay High Court Justice (Retd) Suresh, Planning Commission ex-Member L C Jain, former NCW Chairperson Mohini Giri, senior journalist Prabhash Joshi and Centre for Science and Environment Director Sunita Narain,'' Mr Agrawal said.

The Tata Institute of Social Science will set up a Legal Aid and Counselling Centre at Khandwa district headquarters for the affected.

''A liberal attitude will be adopted and the relevant policy, laws and rules implemented in letter and spirit,'' an official release quoted Mr Singh as saying.
