NBA calls off agitation in Bhopal

Bhopal, July 12 (UNI) The Narmada Bachao Andolan has decided to call off its indefinite dharna here today following talks with Madhya Pradesh Minister Nagendra Singh on their demand for rehabilitation of the dam affected people, NBA spokesman Raghavendra said.

''Though the talks were not satisfactory, the 37-day-old strike was being called off keeping in view all aspects in the present circumstances'', Mr Raghavendra told UNI.

The villagers displaced due to the Indira Sagar and Omkareshwar projects staged dharna for 26 days at Khandwa and later shifted their agitation's venue to the state capital.

NBA activists Chitrupa Palit and Bhagwan Mukati also called off their indefinite hunger strike, Mr Raghavendra added.

The NBA activisits held three rounds of talks with Minister for Narmada Valley Development Nagendra Singh on their demand for the relief and rehabilitation of the dam affected people, particularly allotment of land to the adult members of the affected family.
