Mumbai bomb blasts culprits will be punished: PM

New Delhi, July 12 (UNI) On the first anniversary of the Mumbai train bomb blasts, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today said the Government will not rest till the guilty were punished.

''All those against whom cases have already been registered and all those who are wanted in this case will be brought to justice,'' he said while taking stock of the state of investigation into the July 11, 2006 serial blasts that left about 200 dead and more than 700 injured.

''The Government will not rest till the guilty are punished,'' he said.

So far, the Mumbai Police has charge-sheeted 25 people in the case and the designated Court has issued non-bailable warrants against 15 absconders. Red Corner notices have been issued against two persons.

The Prime Minister also reviewed the steps taken so far for providing compensation to families of the victims and those injured in the blasts, including assistance for hospitalisation, payment of medical bills and provision of employment.

Of the 118 applicants for jobs, approval has so far been given for 96, according to information provided by the Maharashtra Government and the Railways Ministry.

The Ministry has been asked to ensure that the Railway Claims Tribunal expedites the disposal of claims for compensation.

The Prime Minister also hailed the courage and forbearance of the people of Mumbai and their determination to stand united in the fight against terrorism, a press release issued by the Prime Minister's Office said.
