More arrests likely in Sohrabuddin case: Gujarat police

New Delhi, Jul 12 (UNI) The Gujarat police today filed its investigation report in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case in the Supreme Court in sealed covers.

The Gujarat police is reported to have diclosed that the investigation in the case is progressing in the right direction and some more arrests in the case are likely. The Supreme Court will consider the report on the next date of hearing this month.

According to the report, Gujarat police is slated to have informed the apex court that the investigation in the case is nearing completion and charge sheet is going to be filed very soon.

The Supreme Court had earlier refused to order a CBI inquiry into the case after it found the investigation of Gujarat police quite satisfactory.

Sohrabuddin was allegedly killed in a fake encounter in November 2005 by the Gujarat police. Three senior IPS officers including the then DIG (Special Task Force) D G Vanzara are already in custody for their alleged involvement in the case.

The Gujarat police later admitted in the apex court that the wife of Sohrabuddin, Kausar Bi was no more and the sole eyewitness in the case, Tulsiram Prajapati, was also missing.

It also revealed that Sohrabuddin Sheikh was involved in 56 criminal cases including one under TADA, which was registered after recovery of huge quantity of arms and ammunition from his village in the Ujjain district of Madhya Pradesh.
