Monsoon remains subdued in Haryana

Chandigarh, Jul 12 (UNI) Monsoon remained subdued in Haryana but caused light to moderate rain in Himachal Pradesh and Punjab during the past 24 hours.

The upper air cyclonic circulation over South-East Rajasthan and neighbourhood yesterday, now lay over central parts of Uttar Pradesh, extending upto 45 km above sea level.

The axis of seasonal trough roughly passes through Amritsar, Patiala, Bariely, Hardoi, Gaya and then south eastwards, according to the Weather Office here.

A lull continued in the rainfall activity in Haryana even as monsoon clouds hovered at some places in the state.

However, moderate to heavy rain pounded at several areas in Himachal Pradesh, where monsoon was normal since last night, triggering landslides at certain places in the state. Some areas in Kangra and Mandi districts reported heavy rainfall.

Kahu was the wettest place in Himachal Pradesh, recording 59.2 mm rain till this morning, followed by Kasol measuring 42.6 mm, Gamroor 34.4 mm, Pandoh 33.5 mm, Nagrota Surian 18.50 mm, Sundernagar 17.2 mm and Guler 14.70 mm. Naudan, Suni and Berthin areas also experienced rainfall.

Shimla and its adjoining areas were also lashed by rainfall with the capital town recording 0.7 mm downpour till this morning. Upper areas of Shimla district, including tourist places of Wildflower Hall, Kufri, Naldehra and Narkanda, also had rainfall forcing tourists to stay indoors.

Rains lashed some areas in Punjab overnight with Nangal Dam site receiving 3.9 mm downpour, followed by Patiala recording 1.8 mm and Ludhiana 0.3 mm rainfall.

Chandigarh, enveloped in monsoon clouds, was lashed by rain in the morning. The city recorded trace rainfall.

The Met Office predicted moderate to rather heavy rain or thundershowers at many places in Himachal Pradesh and and light to moderate rain or thundershowers at few places in Haryana and Punjab during the next 24 hours.

It warned of heavy rain at isolated places in Himachal Pradesh during the next 48 hours.
