Mangalore varsity introduces four new PG courses

Mangalore, July 12 (UNI) The Mangalore University here has introduced four new Post Graduate (PG) Courses from the current academic year, announced Professor K M Kaveriyappa, the Vice-Chancellor of the University.

Addressing the press conference here today he said that the new four programmes would be Master Degree in Sales and Marketing (MSM) and Master Degree in Human Resource Development (MHRD) (both Two years), Master Degree in Organic Chemistry and new M.Sc programme in Radiation Physics.

He said that the M.Sc in Radiation Physics would be under a twinning programme with Texas A and M University. A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) had also been signed between the two institutions recently in Texas in connection with the postgraduate course in Radiation Physics to have mutual collaboration in academic activities including exchange of faculty and the students, he said.

He said that the candidates completing MSc Radiation Physics would be eligible to get admission directly to MS Nuclear Engineering at Texas A and M University. The great demand for Nuclear Engineers/ Physicists in India and abroad would make the candidates to get positions in reputed laboratories and atomic energy establishments, he said.

Prof Kaveriyappa said that the teaching programme on Radiation Physics, as special/elective subject in postgraduate level was started at the university in collaboration with the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Mumbai in 1993 for the first time in the country.

To strengthen all these academic activities, a Variable Energy Microtron was set up in 1995 in collaboration with Raja Ramanna Centre for Advanced Technology (RRCAI), Indore. The faculty, with the financial support from the Centre for the Board of Research of Nuclear Sciences (BRNS), Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) was being used for variety of research studies by various researchers from sister universities and national laboratories. DAE had recognized the Microtron facility as a Centre for excellence in Radiation Physics and Radiological Sciences and department of Sciences and Technology had recognized it as a National Faculty, he added.

He said that the Entrance Test for MSM and MHRD would be held on August 5 and 6 respectively for which any graduate with not less than 50 per cent marks would be eligible.
