India may float local tenders to lift wheat supplies
JIMBARAN, Indonesia, July 12 (Reuters) The Indian government is actively looking into the option of floating domestic wheat purchase tenders to boost stock levels in its warehouses, a leading industry source said on Thursday.
''The government is seriously considering two options.
Domestic private traders could either import wheat and deliver at warehouses owned by the Food Corporation of India, or they could buy locally from farmers and deliver,'' said one industry source who had a meeting with government officials.
