HC dismisses petition on CBI probe in CPMT irregularities
Allahabad/Lucknow, July 12 (UNI) The Allahabad High Court today dismissed the petition demanding a CBI probe into the gross irregularities detected in the Combined Pre Medical Test (CPMT), results and stringent action against those found guilty.
A single judge bench comprising Justice Sunil Ambwani passed the order on a petition filed by a student Mrityunjay Singh and others.
The High Court rejected the petition on the basis of prompt action initiated by the Uttar Pradesh government.
The petitioners had demanded a CBI probe into the irregularities discovered in the CPMT, 2007 results and strict action against those found guilty, besides ordering a fresh test.
The CPMT, 2007 was shrouded in controversies when the results were found faulty and a fresh evaluation ordered by the state government. The order of fresh results was given after students, who appeared in the CPMT examinations held for admission to six UP government medical colleges, had staged violent protests across the state alleging irregularities in the entrance test result announced on June 14. A student had also committed suicide.
It also followed an inquiry by the state government which resulted in revaluation and fresh result. The Vice Chancellor of the Poorvanchal University, the university conducting the CPMT, Dr K P Singh had to resign in the wake of faulty results.
More than 80,000 students had appeared in the examinations for admission in the state medical colleges, of which about 15,000 were called for the counselling.
The counselling for CPMT, 2007 had startd yesterday. The UP government earlier stayed the counselling till rechecking of the answer sheets and fresh results.
