Chandigarh, July 12 (UNI) The Haryana government today exempted tax on Gur, Dhup and Agarbatti, pesticides and footwear costing upto Rs 300.

At present, shoes and chappals of up to Rs 200 are exempted from sales tax in the state.

Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda also announced a number of other concessions for traders and the common people while addressing a large gathering of traders here today.

The Chief Minister announced some relaxation in quantum of penalty for not paying sales tax in time.

He said that those traders who would not pay their sales tax upto 90 days, would have to pay one per cent extra as penalty, which would be doubled to two per cent in case of non payment of sales tax for more than 90 days.

Earlier this penalty was being charged at a rate of one-and-a-half per cent for non payment of sales tax upto 90 days and at a rate of three per cent beyond 90 days.

Besides, he said the government had recently decided to levy tax on hotels at the rate of 10 per cent on tariff notified at Rs 2,000 per day and above. This, Mr Hooda said, would now not be charged on published rate, but on actual bill of room rent.

Mr Hooda also announced that representatives of traders would be nominated as members of the District Public Relations and Grievances Committees and Sales Tax Committees so as to ensure quick redressal of their grievances.

He said a number of steps had been taken to create congenial atmosphere for smooth functioning of trade and industry in the state.
