Govt to firmly deal with attack on industrialisation : Buddha

Kolkata, Jul 12 (UNI) Warning that his Government would not kowtow to violence, West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee said any act of ''terrorism'' against industrialisation would be firmly dealt with.

'' The threat of pulling down a factory wall or blowing up a plant is not a democratic act. If any one tries to do so, the Government shall do whatever is to be done, '' he said while replying to the debate on budgetary demand for Home Department in the state Assembly today.

Making it clear that the work for Tata Motors' small car factory at Singur would go on, the Chief Minister asserted that nobody would be able to block the process of industrialisation in the state.

Referring to Nandigram, he said digging up of roads was a crime, and the ''Government would not surrender to the violence.'' '' It is the policy of the Left Front Government not to curb any democratic movement. But if there is any collective or individual terrorism, police will not keep silent, '' he said amid thumping of tables by the Treasury Bench members.

Making an appeal to the Opposition to reach a consensus on industrialisation, the Chief Minister said it was necessary for the interest of the state and the new generation.

Earlier, senior Trinamool Congress member Saugata Roy had said the people would pull down the boundary wall of the Singur project if the Government did not return land to those farmers, who had not given consent to acquisition of their plots for the project.

Other Opposition leaders, including Congress member Sudip Bandopadhyay, also bitterly criticised the Government's industrial policy and condemned the alleged murders in Nandigram.
