Five killed, 12 injured in rickshaw-truck collision

Beed, July 12 (UNI) Five people were killed and 12 others injured when an autorickshaw collided head-on with an oncoming truck on Parli-Gangakhed road, 70 km from here, today.

The accident took place at around 1600 hrs when the rickshaw, which was going from Parli to Gangakhed, was hit by the oncoming truck. Among the dead was the rickshaw driver, police said.

The deceased have been identified as Vasant Chavan (27), Ashok Dahale (27), Daulat Tamboli (35) and Roshan Ali (40), while the identity of the rickshaw driver could not be ascertained.

All the injured, five of them with serious injuries, have been admitted to the SRTH civic hospital near Ambajogai. Among the critically injured are two women and a minor girl, police added.

Sonpath police have registered an offence.

Meanwhile, a bandh was observed by all the jewellery shops in Parli market due to the death of the jeweller Ashok Dahale in the accident, sources said.
