Courses to sensitise police on SC/ST act

Chandigarh, July 12 (UNI) The Haryana government is organising intensive courses to impart training to police officers to sensitise them about provisions of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act 1989.

The courses also fully acquaint them on how to draft FIR in cases under the Act so that the person violating it could not escape conviction due to any technical loopholes in the FIR.

This was stated by Education Minister Phool Chand Mullana, who is also a member of the State Level Vigilance and Monitoring Committee constituted last year to review and ensure that the provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act 1989 were being effectively implemented in the state.

These courses were organised at the Haryana Police Academy and as many as 55 officers of DSP level were sensitised about it. Many more such courses would be organised in future also, he added.

He said the present state government was fully conscious to raise the socio-economic status of the persons belonging to scheduled castes and strenuous efforts were being made to ensure equality to all.
