New Delhi, July 12 (UNI) Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Krishan Murari Moghe has been disqualified and will no more be eligible for casting his vote in the 13th Presidential election on the grounds of holding an Office of Profit (OOP) which was at par with the status of a cabinet Minister in Madhya Pradesh.

According to Election Commission (EC) sources, the EC after going through his case had sent its view to President A P J Abdul Kalam seeking his disqualification.

The President after going through the merit of the case has upheld the view of the EC and following this Mr Moghe has been disqualified as a member of the Lok Sabha.

Under the provisions of the Constitution, Dr Kalam had earlier referred to the poll panel a petition seeking the disqualification of Mr Moghe, who represents the Khargone constituency in Madhya Pradesh.

The matter came up following a complaint filed by Congress MLA Jamuna Devi, who had petitioned the President, alleging that Mr Moghe was holding an office of profit in his capacity as head of the state parliamentary group which is equivalent to a Cabinet minister.
