Bihar govt urges Centre to set up Mental Hospital in state

New Delhi, Jul 12 (UNI) The Bihar government today demanded the Centre sanction and set up a mental hospital in the state.

Participating in the Health Secretaries Conference here, Bihar State Health Committee Director K P Ramaih said that with the Kanke Mental Hospital going to Jharkhand during the division of the state, at present Bihar has no mental hospital so the Centre must set up one in the state. He said that medical colleges would be set up in the private sector to meet the demand.

He said that camps would be organised in the rural areas soon and doctors would be posted villages and be given Rs 5000 per month as encouragement allowance. Specialist doctors would be posted in all the districts and blocks and vacant posts would be filled to improve the health care facilties. These doctors and medical staff would be provided housing facilites and more operation theatres would be set up to strengthen the health care infrastructure in the state.

Moreover, health workers would be given proper training and medical kit to ensure safety of mothers and child during delivery of poor women, especially those belonging to SC/ST.
