All heritage buildings in Shimla to be restored, says CM
Shimla, July 12 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today said services of renowned architects and planners had been requisitioned to advise the government on the possibility of carrying out restoration works on the heritage buildings in the town.
''To start with, the Gaiety Theatre building has been taken up for the restoration and is now nearing completion after four years,'' he said after reviewing the restoration work of the building here.
Mr Singh said that the heritage building would be restored to its original architecture and all the later additions would be removed from its face so that coming generation could see the original structures which were unique in all respects.
The state government had initiated the restoration work of the historically important building after tracing out its original architecture, he said.
He said the theatre had been the centre of cultural activities for quite a long time. Top performers of the world had performed here and several exhibitions had been held, giving a momentum to cultural activities since its construction centuries ago.
The restored theatre would give a renewed momentum to the cultural and artistic activities in the capital town where top ranking artists would perform and exhibit their products, he added.
