Kohima, July 12 (UNI) Despite the economic blockade being called off by All Assam Students' Union(AASU) and Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad(AJYCP) in Mokokchung and Mon districts on Tuesday, it remained in force in Tuli sub-division till yesterday.

The economic blockagde was called on Tuesday in the two districts along the Assam-Nagaland border in the aftermath of the July five incident.

Sources said that the lifting of the blockade was effected only for the Mariani-Mokokchung roads and not for the Arnguri-Sonari and Amguri-Tuli roads. Though small vehicles carrying passengers were allowed to pass through Amguri, no buses or trucks carrying essential commodities were allowed to pass through Amguri to Tuli.

The economic blockade continued to remain in force along the Amguri-Sonari road leading to mon district, creating a shortage of essential commodities in the district.

The blockade remained in force on the Halwating-Tizit-Namtola road, Naginimora point and Geleki on National Highway-61 leading to Mon district and Tuli.

Sources said that about 250 volunteers of the AJYCP from Jorhat went to Halwating yesterday and prevented trucks laden with essential commodities and other goods from proceeding to tuli and mon.

Meanwhile, unconfirmed sources said that the chairman of Anki 'C" village under Mokokchung district was served with an ultimatum by some individuals from Assam, who had demanded that the village council should be handed over to three youths to Assam police by today, failing of which would lead to Assam police launching an operation on the village.

This ultimatum further created tension in the area with people living along the border demanding adequate protection by the Nagaland government.
