6 minor girls rescued from brothel
Mumbai, July 12 (UNI) Six minor girls from Asom, who were allegedly forced into prostitution, were rescued by the Nagpada police from city's infamous Kamathipura red light area here.
All the girls rescued late last evening, had allegedly been brought to Mumbai by one Sufiya on the pretext of giving them job in beauty parlour. However, they were sold to Sheela, a brothel owner in Kamathipura area, senior Police Inspector Abdul Samad Pathan said.
According to Mr Pathan, the case came to light when Sheikh Muhammed Zulfiqar, a visitor to the brothel, interacted with one of the girls who told him about her plight.
She told him that she was abducted from Asom, and sold for Rs 50,000. Moved by her story, Sheikh took up the task of getting her freed from the brothel, and launched a hunt to track the girl's family in Asom.
Though he did not have any where about of the girls' family, he did not give up and tried to get in touch with one of her abductors. Sheikh finally succeeded in his efforts when he managed to speak to the girls family.
Meanwhile, Police were also informed and in the subsequent raids at the brothel, all the six girls were rescued. While brothel owner Sheela managed to give the police a slip, its manager Sarita has been arrested.
