UP defends move to demolish proposed university's walls
Lucknow, July 11 (UNI) The Uttar Pradesh government today defended the demolition of the boundary wall of the proposed Mohammad Ali Jahaur University at Rampur even as Samajwadi Party deputy leader Mohammad Azam Khan said that he will move the High Court against the action.
Replying to an adjournment motion moved by Mr Khan in the state assembly, Parliamentary Affairs minister Lalji Verma said that the boundary wall of the university was demolised on June 28 as it had blocked a public road.
To a question on the cancellation of lease deed for 225 acre of land for the university by the district authorities, the minister said it was done as per the law.
Earlier Mr Khan alleged that even after approval from the Centre, the district magistrate had cancelled the lease deed through which the university has to pay Rs 1705 per acre annually for three years.
The SP members said that he will be forced to move the High Court against the government's decision and even said that it was unfortunate that HC has to intervene into each matter like the Ambedkar Sports complex in the state capital.
In another adjournment motions during zero hour, the government accepted for an all party meeting on the drought and power crisis in the state.
Earlier during question hour, Rashtriya Lok Dal(RLD) members staged a noisy walk out over non-payment of 15 per cent interest to the cane farmers by the mills for the pending dues.
